This mod, like many others, intends to add flavour to Byzantium, the remnants of the Roman Empire, as you recover from the ashes like the purple phoenix of resurgence, while crusading through the Turk towards recreating the empires of old. Perhaps the one of Basil II, maybe even the one envisioned of Ioustinianos I, known as Renovatio Imperii?
Featuring a dynamic Theme System controllable using a Strategoi estate, dynamic province naming in Greek for essentially every corner of the Roman Empire in 400AD, including some for Persia from Alexander the Great, either directly historical, inspired by historical names, or transliterated from current names, and finally, the ability to show the world that what they called the Empire of the Greeks is, in fact, the true Empire of the Romans.
Basileus/Basilissa, the Strategoi await your orders.
- Completely overhauled missions to restore the Empire's borders, updated to the new mission tree system given in 1.25.
- Dynamic province names in Greek for every single province that was within the Empire at 400AD, as well as province names for the Persian lands conquered by Alexander the Great, should you want to ensure the flow of spice.
- The Theme System has been revamped to a brand new estate known as the Strategoi. Only one province per area can be assigned to the Strategoi. This province will act as the seat of Strategoi, relevant for flavour events and missions. Keep the Strategoi happy and your armies will do well. Let them become too powerful or unhappy and they may revolt and seize the crown.
- The Exarch System, which allows for the establishment of Exarches, a new subject type, in various regions of the empire, effectively attempting to simulate the way the Byzantines governed their faraway lands. Later on, their autonomy can be revoked, turning into the brand new Exarch estate.
- Flavour events concerning the Roman policies on the Jews, the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Theme capitals, restoration of Constantinopolitan trade goods, Tyrian Purple, Genoese traders, the Cataphracts, Greek Fire, Chariot Races, and more.
- The ability to fully restore the Roman Empire through a decision unique to the Byzantines, requiring the abolition of the HRE and restoration of the Pentarchy. The best part perhaps is that it does not automatically move the capital to such a poorly defensible city as Rome. However, should you still want your capital there, I have added a decision allowing you to move it there.
- Integration of features from the mod Renovatio Imperii by eva3071 that introduces an altered idea set for the Byzantines, as well as the faction system, tweaked somewhat by me. Also integrated the expansion on Eastern tech units for alt-history Byzantium.
- Integration of features from the mod Byzantium Events by Nevik that introduces a lot of earlygame flavour for the Byzantines. Most events have been tweaked and some specific ones removed, as well as some events being repurposed to a brand new disaster: The Succession Crisis!
-The ability to establish 33 different Knightly Orders for the Latin Empire, a new tag in this mod, making the Latin Empire act like a minor version of a revoked privilegia-HRE. Huge thanks to Neprut of the Shattered Europa dev team for allowing me to use some of their tags plus Crusader Ideas!
-Plus several additional features relating to Europe throughout the game, such as Holy Orders being available to all Catholics, and Sufi Orders available to all Sunni.
... And more, all while being playable in the Beyond Typus map by Draiocht & Co., which adds an enormous amount of provinces in Europe and just generally makes everything better.
- Grant you a free ticket towards defeating the Ottomans.
- Patch 1.28
- Purple Phoenix DLC
- Beyond Typus 12.0
- Beyond Typus Miscellanea
- Byzantine Resurgence Unit Pack
- Mesogeios-BT-BR Compatch
- Rights of Man DLC (Due to personalities granting unique options for events)
- Mandate of Heaven DLC (Due to bonuses relating to prosperity and splendor)
- Dharma DLC (Due to Government reforms and closer integration of the Theme System)
- Golden Century DLC (For Latin Empire (And all other Catholic nations) getting Holy Orders)
- If you have feedback about balance issues and such, please do not hesitate to tell me. I have run countless of balance runs in order to tweak this mod in many different ways, but if you have more opinions do let me know!
- I myself am not Greek, so if you have any strong opinions about something that is wildly wrong in terms of localization, please do tell me! I am aware that I may have gone for a slightly older Greek in localisation (I.e Serres is Serrai, Thessaloniki is Thessalonike, etc.).
- If you find any bugs, please do tell me about them ASAP. While this is my first real mod and as such, more time has probably been spent debugging it than actually adding new features, there may still be some things that I have not managed to iron out.
- If you think a feature is bad just because it's bad, you are free to make your own mod. Heck, if you want, just edit the mod file and remove said feature if you don't like it. That said, I welcome any suggestions and constructive criticism, however what I do with it is my decision alone.
First, let me preface with saying that this mod is huge in scope and modifies many tiny details everywhere. I've tried to keep general compatibility, but due to the way EU4 is coded, sometimes that is not possible. As such, there will be incompatibilities with any mod that:
- Modifies Estates.
- Modifies or creates new Government Reforms.
- Adjusts vanilla Triggered Modifiers.
- Adjusts Byzantine history files, missions or related country formation files.
- Adjusts the military tech file, including any mod that adds buildings unlocking through military tech.
- Implements certain on_actions.
The only mod that specifically has compatibility with the above is Beyond Typus & its addon Miscellanea, simply because the changes are based on those files.

Oh, and PS: When pronouncing the province names in this mod, keep in mind that in Byzantine Greek, every 'b' had already started being pronounced as 'v', like in 'very'. So if you see Sebastodon, pronounce it as Sevastodon (Think Sevastopol if you're familiar with Russia). Same with Basileus. Oh, and ph is pronounced like F.
